About Us

Acting out of the core values of our Christian faith, the Greater Rochester Community of Churches Faith in Action Network gathers congregations and people from diverse communities to build relationships and support initiatives based on spiritual and community values that advocate, model, and celebrate basic human rights. We work toward the day when every child, youth, and adult feels safe, experiences support and care, and can discover ways to use their gifts for the good of the beloved community.

Ecumenical cooperation and justice work has been happening widely and intentionally in Rochester and Monroe County for 100 years. 2019 will mark the centennial anniversary of the gathering of representatives of nine denominations at the First Methodist Episcopal Church in Rochester to form the Federation of Churches of Rochester and Monroe County. The group’s intent was to work on “things that could be done better together than separately.” Since then, ecumenical work in Rochester has flourished and in fact was ultimately expanded to include interfaith cooperation and dialogue.

Much of our strength lies in our potential to impact lives through the relationships we have among Greater Rochester’s faith communities and the partners who share our interest in Micah’s (the name of our justice group) quest of doing justice, loving mercy and walking humbly before God (Micah 6:8). It is this mutual covenant, along with God’s grace, which brings the many voices to the table that enable us to support and take effective action on this work throughout our community and the world. As a result, we complement efforts being undertaken by individual groups. In this context, one might evaluate our efforts in terms of lives touched and how our work together has contributed to enlarging the vision for racial and social justice and interfaith dialogue throughout the region.
